Root vegetables are underground parts of plants that are edible, they are either roots or underground stems of the plant. They vary widely in form and structure, and are classified according to the part of the plant that is consumed as a vegetable.
Root vegetables are nutritionally rich, and some starchy varieties form important staple foods of communities across the world.
Some of them such as turnips and celery are utilized for their roots as well as their stalks and greens.

Waxing Moon Tips
1.- To encourage your lawn to grow, mow during the waxing moon cycle.
2.-HAIR GROWTH To promote hair growth, trim your hair during the waxing cycle. Some say
best a little after the new moon during the first quarter or first seven days (especially when the
moon is in Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn or Pisces).
3.-In general, the waxing moon period is propitious for starting projects or relationships, planting
gardens, planning and building or any activity where you would like to see increase.
Still on time to plant fall and early winter crops.
More Tips for waxing Moon:
Many people sow Leaf and Flower seeds at the new moon in order to ensure germination before the growth spurt given the plant by the full moon.
Remember, the waxing moon is the time to encourage rapid new growth.
If you want to retard or control growth, and / or encourage hardy rooting, perform the necessary activities during the waning moon.
Cristina ~ That worked for me. My peas are already up! I never sowed peas in late summer before. I then sowed lettuce at the next "leaf" day, which I believe was the new moon. Yeah, lettuce in the fall, when the tomatoes will still be ripening...maybe...hardly ever get them to play nice together. If we have a warm spring and summer, then we have great tomatoes and the lettuce bolts early. If it is cold, then we have great lettuce and broccoli, but the tomatoes are slow to produce and ripen.
This year, for us, has been good for the tomatoes. I had to pull the lettuce early.
Evelyn, like all gardeners, I suppose we have to keep on trying.
Lettuce prefer cool days, but they are so nice just taken from the garden.
Your Summer, over there gets to quite high temperatures and dry, so try again when the days getting a bit cooler.
I do peas in large container for my Fall gardening and I use them as greens, I do get 3 or 4 cuts and they are lovely in salads with other leafy vegetables.

yes, Peas are incredible, I also sow Snow Peas, Sugar Peas, Mangetout, Chinese Peas and they do well into winter, I have to cover them overnight but they do soldier along, also with some protection I manege to keep some snap beans.

Today I dug up my foxtail lilies (eremurus). I thought there would just be 4 but found some that had multipied so I potted them up.(9) The roots looked like octopi. Should I then later plant them on a flower day? They are roots but I want lots of flowers as they did not bloom this year.
Tomorrow I will sow some carrots. I am early, but I have the space and the seed to spare. I will let you know if I succeed. I harvested some carrots today that were planted in March! Some were still small.
Evelyn, firstly with your Carrots if they are very small , they may need some fertilizer. In vegetables there are some heavy feeders and light feeders. Light-feeding vegetables are great lovers of composting and a bit of an organic light fertilizer. Carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, rutabagas and herbs are light-feeders. They do need extra phosphorus, potassium and many trace elements. Carrots can benefit from Peas, lettuce, chives, onions, leeks, rosemary, sage, tomatoes as companion plants.
Your eremuros are roots and also flowers. What you can do is divede carefully the crown and plant some on Flower day to have beautiful flowers that you can leave them to seed and reproduce some new ones. If you have bees or other insects to pollinate your eremuros you may have some seeds and the new rizomes for sure will have some other nice colours. At the same time plant another root in a root day. You will have strong plants that will also flower well conserving the original colour.
