I bought a bag of bulbs from Costco (100 in a bag) and planted them. I expected to see them in the spring. But they are all sending up leaves already. Are they supposed to do that? Will they survive winter? Do they remain green like my bearded iris all year or do they die back like daffodills and tulips?
Dutch Iris
I was afraid I should have waited til spring to plant them even though they sold them in the fall! If they all survive and bloom I should have a pretty showing....I hope!
I planted all 100 of these in one huge Tire! I want to fill it with them. Planting in the rocky ground and weeding is just too much work! And by putting down sone wire unger it befor we filled the tire it should keep those pesty moles from pushing them out of the ground.
people dont worry. they always do this. my newly planted ones are up as are the establishe ones.
Mark
Thanks Mark. I have other types of irs but these are the first Dutch Iris I have tried.
Mark's so right Zany! I have mine planted amongst my Magic Man, and believe me next spring you will see an array of lovely orchid looking irises coming up in and around your TB's.
"eyes"
Yes, they always come up in the fall. They go dormant in the summer. They freeze and thaw and always bloom beautifully for me in the spring.
I bought some dutch iris last week, was going to plant them out but we are going to get some really freezing cold weather in the next week so will leave them until it is milder.
