I live in nyc and every summer in my last apt in the east village, i'd periodically find one of these guys in my bathtub. and now that i'm in a new apt I, thankfully haven't seen any, but I did find one in an empty plastic cup I left on my desk at work (downtown). they are doing construction on the floor above us, but this thing can't climb out of the cup. it must have fallen in.
they're about 2-ish mm long (not including the legs/antenna). they move very slowly too and appear to have 6 legs and 2 antenna. all black/dark brown with a fat body that pops like a grape when you squash it.
any help figuring this out would be much appreciated.
thanks

It's a spider beetle - usually nuisance pests, they sometimes will infest dry stored food products in pantries.
