I am leaning toward yellow-crowned night heron, but maybe it's a black-crowned...Just excited to see them in my yard! We tried to get from different angles but they were in the corner of the yard with the sun behind them.
In the "yeah, I'm sleepy...I'm a night bird" photo, it looks like a few feathers trying to emerge from the head.

Yep, Yellow-crowned Night Heron; note the stout but 'stubby', all-black bill, and the neat, small white spots on the breast.
