Goldfinches in zone 8A

I didn't know goldfinches stayed in SC during the summer.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I saw 2 beautiful males feeding on the heads of volunteer sunflowers! Is this usual for this time of year?

I rarely see them in the winter months, even though I put out nyjer and thistle seed sacks

Course, didn't have my camera with me!! Isn't that always the way?
