My Texas Garden

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm a bit late, but better late than never, right? I didn't plant my garden (Grimes County) until 6/23/13. These are photos at 1, 2 & almost 3 weeks. Can't wait to be able to pick something!

You are growing a veggie garden in the shade?

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

It is on the southeast side of my house, so it gets full morning sun & shade in the afternoon heat due to trees to the south side of it.

It looks great, I hope you will get a very good crop.

Oh, my goodness! Your garden is beautiful! What is it--about 8' X 10'? What is planted in the little planter with an arc?

That’s impressive work, jessaree.

Where did get those timbers? They are not switch ties are they? It looks like they could have been high-dollar, unless you struck a deal.

To me, the sweet corn looks a little thick but it also looks healthy. So go with it.

The coons are watching

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

It's 8' x 16' railroad ties with mushroom compost.

The planter to the side with the arc is a 50 gallon plastic drum that my hubby cut in half drilled holes in the bottom & put on timbers, then bent a piece of panel for plants to crawl on.

I'm not worried (yet) about coons, or any other animals getting into it. I have ducks running all over the place & they have not gotten into it yet. Neither have the dogs. (Knock on wood!)

Very nice. I like the barrel planter with the climbing fence. just a nice setup all around.

My garden is still going in, although I am done with planting corn - that 110 days til harvest looking a bit tight before first freeze. I think my sweet corn went in June 28th, give or take a day...
