I know this is a long shot, I received the seed in the fall of 2010.
It was this native see trade thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1142995/
I received the seed for perennial Indian Blanket, Gaillardia, I planted it and it has done very well, I would like to propagate it but I need a scientific name.
I hope the person who gave me the seed sees this and can identify it for me. The leaves are different from all that I have seen.
Here are the pictures of what I have.
Looking for who gave me perennial Indiam Blanket.
Josephine, I read thru that thread and it looks like cheryl gave you some blanket flower called Red Dome.
Thank you Marty, and you are right, but the Red Dome gaillardia almost has no petals and the seed head is red.
Here is a link; http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=GASU
I think I have this one ; http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=GAPUP2
But I really don't know, the leaf on my plants seems to match the pulchella var. pulchella best.
Since it was a seed exchange, perhaps cheryl included seed from more than one variety. The one you show in your pic looks like the one I have that she gave me.
Is yours perennial? and was it from seed?
It was a plant and I dont know yet if it is perennial. so sorry.
Josephine, I went out to take a photo of my plant and saw the tag which indicates I got it from a native plant sale in Texarkana, not from Cheryl. However, the plant tag says it is pulchella if that helps. Here are my photos. The plant sale was sponsored by the Native Plant Society of Texas so I trust the ID.
It sure looks like mine, but I do know that mine is perennial because it lived through the winter as a potted plant outside, although it did get covered through the hard freezes.
The regular pulchella is an annual, we shall see what develops.
Thanks for helping.
It looks like Cheryl might be on vacation, I hope we will find out when she comes back.
I gave you some plants, but they were aristata, not the native variety.
Yes, I remember that Stephanie, they only lasted one year, but they were beautiful.
Josephine, Ive been reading about pulchella and google refs say it is perennial or half hardy perennial. Maybe the winter was mild enough that pulchella was not affected.
That is a possibility, I surely have nothing against it being pulchella, but I have this in my head that whoever gave it to me said it was perennial,
Oh well, we shall see.
Thank you for trying Marty.
I did not give you any seeds for puchella. As far as I know, the only blanket flowers that are native and look like the typical form are annuals.
Thank you Cheryl, that is what I thought, I guess I,m looking for that magic plant?
I any event the wildflower center says Pulchella var. pulchella can be perennial so I am hoping that might be what I have.

Of course I have never seen the foliage of var. pulchella so I can't tell if that is what i have.
I will continue growing it and testing and we shall see, it would be so nice to have a perennial variety.
Yes it would, save some seed.
C
I will do that and we shall see what happens.
