Big big surprise today

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

In 2008 I moved to the NC Coast. In October bought a Thailand Giant. 2009 plant got big had blooms and just died . I saved what looked like seeds and just thru them in a large wash pan I had put dirt in. well boy did pups come up. I sent lots out and hope they lived but no one has ever given me and update.
But today as I went into the back yard I looked on the ground and the Thailand giant is comming back up!!!!!!!!! Its about 2 inches tall. This plant has not come up since fall of 2009.
Has anyone ever had this happen before? Its kinda neat but strange. I do have 1 of the pups in a planter in the front yard. Lets hope this one revives its self.
I would share photos but need a new computer to do that.

thats a super 4th of july surprise lavinamae !!! :)
i am amazed at how tough..despite my poor gardening techniques sometimes...
that plants come thru..after along time of neglect..or in your case..just was in the ground..and pop..its back..
i didnt overwinter store some of my EE's very well last fall.. :( my bad.. this spring
went digging in my many pots i store them in.. some felt soft..or no feel to them..
but i just cant throw anything away..:) good thing..
i planted them..and like u... i have several of those poor neglected colocasia/alocasias commin up !!!
just keep watering them..
i guess in NC you get the rain ok..here in utah.. were back in a drought again..i think..its so dry..so i water alot..
good luck on your thai giant!!!!

I think this happens with tuberous aroids. I've had the same sort of thing with other species.

Get rain is a mild word. We have humidity thats real high and here at the coast everything is green except yellow flies or misquitos

of all the EE's i wasnt sure if they would grow..
they all are..YEA>>>>
these guys are tough..even when a bad grower.. (me..) :(
doesnt overwinter store them well..
even some of my thai giants..which dry out more (no real storage bulb)
than alocasias..are going good..
i doubt i'll get any HUGE leaves from them..but.. i promise..i'll be a good
parent this fall..and store them in leaf mulch.. :)
lol
