I started some Brug seeds 2 weeks ago.
I have them in a warmed greenhouse.
And they are under grow lights.
How warm should they be kept, and ETA for germination??
just wondering.
Merry
how long does germination take?
Merry,
Brug seeds vary...you might want to email Brugcrazy she grows lots of Brugs from seeds. I have had Brug seeds germinate in as little as two weeks and others as long as two or more months.
It kinda looks like there is a seed or 2 opening up .
I am keeping them warm and moist.
and the grow light is on a timer...
I must admit I am as ecited as a school girl.
Merry
Glory is correct. Some brug seeds will germinate in 2 weeks, others take longer. Once you see one come up from a batch, the others follow quickly. All depends on freshness of the seeds, etc. Also, make sure you peel and soak them first. I usually soak them for up to 12 hours in warm water then peel afterwards. Hope this helps. Have fun.
I have had seeds that were planted come up as late as a year later. I think it may be due to age of seeds as well. Perhaps other factors as well.
brugcrazy: Please excuse my ignorence but what are albinos?
Thanks brugcrazy, That is strange. Hope all the seeds aren't like that.
White seedlings are generally from varigated parentage.
Only way to get a white seedling up is to graft it to a non white seedling while it is just sprouting. One might try tissue culturing a non albino to an albino as well though. White seedlings generally have a much higher incidend of 3 cotyledons. Ever notice how sometimes a Brugmansia stigma will split into 2 parts after a rain sometimes, well sometimes they also split into 3 forming a 3 chambered seedpod as opposed the normal 2 chambered pod....I know most of you are familiar with such oddities on other hybrids.

Seeds from my sanguinea pods germinated in several days, and each seed germinated. I was shocked. One pod had green fruit inside, the other was all brown and shriveled and the seeds were moldy, but all of them came up in a few days anyway.
