I acquired six irises from a trade and have no clue what to do with them now. My mother suggested that i plant them in a pot (and keep them watered) until this fall when i should transfer them into beds. Is that the best thing i can do for them right now with all this heat?
I would very much like to grow these. Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks,

Irises
I would put them in the ground. They bloom better if placed in at least 6 hours of sun. Don't bury them deep, just one or two inches of dirt on top of the rhizomes. Water them every few days, but not so much to rot the bulbs (usually not a problem in Texas). They won't mind the heat. Don't worry if some of the tops die back. In fact a lot of people would cut the tops down to about 6-8 inches. I do it both ways and don't see much difference.
