Okay, here's a new one: why on earth (or why in earth) would my kale have started turning beautiful fall colors of red, orange and bronze? At first they feel like they might have been overwatered, then 3 days later they're as dry and crispy as potato chips.
I'm confused.

Bronzed kale
Turtle - I see you are in Oregon. Has it been very hot there?
You said you thought they might have been over watered. Perhaps that is the case. Over watering can cause root rot. If the weather is hot and dry, and your kale's roots are not healthy, then that might be the problem.
What type? Red Russian? They will do that. My curly Kale and dino Kale don't
Thanks for the ideas. It's Tuscano kale, and I'm actually using an off the ground raised bed which is very free-draining.
I too am growing Dino Kale but it's not turning red. Hmmmm.
