Fig tree post - question

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

Last year (of course we had the drought and all bets are off) but I got rust on our 28 year old fig tree. Given to us by a dear family friend.

Weird but now everything looks good... knock wood or whatever brings you luck... it's taller than our garage roof, so nets are not possible. I just hope I get enough for a pint of fig preserves.... mom's recipe.. equal parts figs and sugar (I'll back of the sugar.. stuff from that era too sweet) and several lemons.

memories. But anyway, how do you prevent rust?

I have no idea, we had rust on our Mexican plums last year, but this year they look fine.
The fig tree looks good too, maybe the squirrels and the birds will leave some for us, I love fig jam and haven't made it in a long time.
I hope you get to make it.

My fig tree you gave me Josephine, is about 5 feet tall. Ive never had figs before but maybe this year.

Excellent, watch out for the squirrels, they love them.

This year it's doing great.. knock wood. Grew like a crazy tree. Needs to be cut back. I didn't get many figs (due to competition with birds and time to pick)

Ours did very well too, but again the squirrels got most of them.

Ours was kind of funny for our first year having a fig tree. This spring it was budding forth all over, had beautiful foliage. Then we had a frost and half the tree got bit. But after the bit leaves fell new ones come. So half the tree was ripe and picked clean between us and the birds. Then the other half was ripe a month later...lol

Very unusual behavior, but you take what you can get, I am glad you got some figs.
