FINALLY!!!!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

This is the 4th spring since I planted my epi cuttings. I was getting disheartened, and thinking about tossing the whole bunch of ungrateful plants, since I had never gotten a bloom. They haven't even been taken outside yet. Yesterday, I dragged the garden hose into the basement to water the orchids in the orchidarium, and decided to water the epies as well. They're still fairly healthy in appearance, despite their neglect, they stay in the basement all winter, and I just haven't found the time to take them to the back deck yet.

I was moving one of the shelves that contains the epies closer to the window, now that all of the other tropical plants have been taken outside. I thought I was hallucinating, and went in for a closer look. OMG, I have buds. I was near tears!!!! I may finally see some blooms this year, if the buds don't fall off.

Last year my hylocereus undatus also had a nice bud, and stupid me knocked it off with the garden hose. I will not be going near this epie, this may be my lucky year.

I also missed the 2 blooms on the Echinopsis Antares!!!! That's what happens when I rarely go into the basement at this time of year. When we get back from vacation this week, all of the epies and cacti will be taken outside.

Do happy for you. I do understand the frustration. I have a lot that haven't ever bloomed too.

Thanks ibartoo, I'll post pictures of the bloom if they open. I hope you'll be successful in getting blooms soon as well.

I am planning to try re-potting them before I take them in for the fall. Maybe they will bloom next season. I have seen 4 different epi cacti bloom in my garden over the years, but I would love to see each different variety flower.

Is this the plant that blooms at night? I use to grow them, but could never catch the bloom. lol I don't know what happen to mine it was huge. Maybe because I gave too many cuttings off it?

One of the epies that blooms at night is E. Oxypetalum, mine has no buds yet :-(. The plant that has buds looks like it will have pink blooms. I'm afraid to even move it to see the name, with fear of loosing the buds. I really have to work on getting tags in the pots. Most of the plants came with the names written on the cuttings.

Ibartoo, I'm not repotting anything until I see further blooms. I know there may be nothing to letting them get get root bound before they bloom, but I'm going to see what happens??

E. Oxypetalum (1st pic) and Strictum (2nd pic) both are night bloomers. Both are beautiful.

I came home from vacation in TX tonight, and I had to check on the buds. They've grown since I last saw them last week, and I found another epie that has a bud. I took a chance and moved and older part of the 1st plant and found the name, it's Pele, in the first 2 pictures below, King Midas is the 3rd bud, and the 4th is Princess Kelly, which put out this bud this past week when we were gone.

I hope I get to see the open blooms, we leave on vacation again in 2 weeks. The plants are also dry, I'll have to water them tomorrow. These won't get moved until they've bloomed.

I sure hope you get to see them. It would be a shame to miss them after all this time.

Today, Pele's bloom is also swelling, and King Midas is still looking good. The bloom on Princess Kelly is drying up, so I won't get to see that bloom.

Pele is open this evening. The bloom is bigger than King Midas. The second picture is with the flash, and the 3rd, without. I'll have to get a better picture tomorrow, when the bloom is fully open.

Today. I found that I missed the 2nd bloom on Epi. Pele, while we were out of town on vacation.

However, the bud on Beauty to Behold continues to increase insize.
