These look the worms that are eating all the leaves off our oak and other trees. They are stripping them clean. They were not here last year, I don't know if they will kill the tree or just the leaves.

Great Southern Whites don't eat any trees that I'm aware of. Lots of caterpillars look alike. If you can get a picture of your caterpillar I'm sure the Bug ID forum could identify it for you.
