Found a beetle about 2 1/2 in long on the porch tonight. Not really frightening, but odd to have bugs that large around here. And it hissed at me when I tried to move it. So I figured it was probably some sort of cockroach, but it seems too big to be. Any ideas?

Long-horned wood-boring beetle in the subfamily Prioninae. Their larvae often are found in underground portions of trees, especially roots.
