I've purchased a cape honeysuckle (tecomaria capensis) and planted in a container to prevent it spreading. I'm in zone 7a - can I overwinter this in a garage?

Yes - and it blooms on new wood, so blooming should be unaffected if you keep it above freezing. DON'T grow it on the ground though. It spreads aggressively via rhizomes.
