Pole bean comparison

I planted three different kind of pole beans, Santa Ana, Kentucky blue, and purple. We have had a very cool and rainy spring, but the purple pole beans are Wayyyyy ahead of the others. Picture taken before poles in place.

It was a great season for beans. Wet and cool, with the occasional hot spell. The cosse de violetta was an outstanding bean. It laughed at out cold spring and gave me pounds of delicious beans. Delicious and tender even huge and older. I will keep growing this one!

My Santa Anna beans were late, but producing like crazy. Great pickling beans, very uniform in size but short. The vines and beans are sticky like Velcro and stuck to some of my shirts so badly they had to be washed off in the machine. This bean hated our cool spring. Not enough production early enough to grow this one again. I have some seed left if someone wants to trade for another kind of pole bean.

Kentucky blue was early to sprout but low in production. The beans were huge and tasty though, with no strings, unlike it's Kentucky wonder parent. ( and the reason I don't like Kentucky wonder).

Attached picture has all three beans on today's pic. Overall I ate beans all summer, pickled a lot and froze enough for most of the winter, from just two teepees of beans with mixed varieties.
