I just love the look of Goat's Beard.
Not seeing it above Zone 8... and don't see any zip code reports in Texas at all.
Has anyone successfully grown it here?
If this isn't possible, do you know of something similar I CAN grow?
It's just so cool looking with the fluffy white plumes....

Silly Question: Can we grow this in TX?
Goat's beard is native to the US but not to Texas and it likes lots of moisture, I don't know if it can take the high temperatures, it loves it in Alaska. http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=ARDI8
You could always try it, it would be a good experiment.
Thanks, Josephine. Phooey.
guess I'll just keep looking for something similar.
it looks a lot like pampas grass which
does very well here
oh yeah!! guess i'm a little twitchy about the possibility of snakes or mice living under them (so i've been told).
but yes, they're beautiful and i love them. my grandmother had them.
In that tiny pic (on my phone) I thought it was astilbe which I grow in the shade in N Austin. You might investigate that as an alternative.
Astilbe also requires moisture to thrive...
Cajun - do you have cats ?
That would solve the mouse & snake fears
(although they are around whether you
have Pampas grass or not )
hmmm this is true... yes, we do. apparently, while i'm at work they have large garden parties. my neighbor once told me that when he came to get something, there were five or six cats running around my place LMAO!!! i was like "whaaaaat?!! ur kidding me!!"
i just love the look of that Goat's Beard... afraid anything that's going to require a lot of watering... i may have to pass on. i like the Astilbe too (thanks, D3VNT), but i really am trying to go for as many drought tolerant natives as i can (and thanks, MaryAnn!)
it was just a dream *smile*
Don't worry, Carole...we'll find the look without the effort...give me a bit of time to research! LOL
LOL sounds good to me!
i just sent you a dmail ;-)
p.s. thinking about ways to add pathways, i pinned a lot of ideas on my Pinterest Gardening board:
