Hi! I'm not convinced that this is even a bromeliad, but someone thought it might be. Does anyone recognize it? My son grew it from seed and passed it to me when they were only a couple of inches tall.
Thanks for any help!
Please help me ID this plant
To me it favors one of the Dyckias but I am not good at IDs.
Believe it or not, the Dyckia plants are in the bromeliad family as are the Puya.
It certainly looks like it is thriving. How long have you had it?
I am sorry you did not receive a response. You might post this in the ID forum also. Kristi
Dyckia, Puya (a very small subject), impossible to tell. Where did the seed come from?
Both of these genera have small plumose seeds, i.e. they have a fuzzy end to aid in seed dispersal (like dandelions).
Because of the apparent thinness of the leaves, that suggests Puya to me - but the seed is not readily available.

Thanks for the answers - I have no idea where my son got the seed (online order) and I've now had these for almost 2 years. He had decided he wanted to grow "weird" stuff and bought several different types of seeds. He had no clue what he was doing - when I asked him what zone they were good for, he had this odd look on his face and said "zone???" LOL... He's in his early 30s and is just discovering how much fun it is to grow stuff. He's just harvested his first Ghost Pepper :)
