lookit all those JUNE bugs!!!!
Went and bought meatbird feed this AM, and collected the duck eggs. We had 9 eggs ye haw!!!! We only had 7 ducks so it looks like the ducklings from November are starting to lay at last!! woowoo!!
Thanks for the new link.
Are the eggs for eating or hatching? What breed are they?
We need rain.
Thanks Nik - I was working all day and missed the month change !
Caj - I think your rain is on the way.
Caj - u'all got moisture yet ? We do - like big time.
We got three inches of water from the sky in the last couple days. We needed it, too. I have Welsh Harlequin Ducks. They are basicly a colour mutation from the khaki campbells. We eat duck eggs here for breakfast or whenever else we need eggs except for boiling. They don't boil up very well.
I hatch about 50 or 60 each year and after they are sexed I keep about 10 new hens, and 3 new drakes. Then I sell the rest of the ducklings, and either sell or eat all of last year's drakes and about 1/2 the hens. When the new ones finally start laying I sell or munch the rest of the hens from last year.
The grandson is here for a few days, so I am putting him to work on fencing around the new garden., and mowing.
chores is why God gifts us with grandkids. He has asked that I make my famous round steak with mashed potatoes and tomatoe gravy for supper tonight, but that's cool; I like to cook as much as I like to eat.
cool weather for us this week. in the 70's sure wish summer weather would kick in . I love it hot .
mmmm Nik what time is dinner you say ? LOL
well i m really bored. I decided not to do a garden since i will be going to CA in July. There is no way anyone can water it , really hard to do. I fill up my tractor bucket with water from the house. drive over to garden. Use either my pump set up with a hose or buckets. LOL i didn't think i could find anyone willing to do that for me for 9 days LOL .
so i m busy in the flower gardens. getting them all prettied up. spent yesterday weeding. got a tree in the ground. moved some hosta to new locations .
got a hellabore in the ground.
so its looking much better. fall comes i will braid the Dappled Willow and some of the PG hydrangea's.
and plant more bulbs .
have a great monday everyone
It rained all day yesterday and last night. Was still raining a bit this morning but not a hard rain. Garden needed it. I won't have to water fora while now.
Has not been a good day for me. Last week has not been good. The rear axle on our van broke. It was at the park. It was a recall part so Ford was supposed to come pick it up. They didn't. The police said it was abandoned and had it hauled. We had to pay for that and 2 days storage. Had 2 saddles, 2 bristles, a battery jump box and a basket of horse medicine and miscellaneous stuff swollen out of it. Needless to say I am a bit depressed.
What a Bummer, Caj.
Things are moving s l o w l y here on this side of the mountain range. Lots of seedlings to plant but the weather hasn't been cooperative when I've felt up to it.

Very productive day. Picked the last of the peas and pulled the vines. Planted corn in it's place. Got my second picking of beans today. Steamed them to go with the baked chicken at lunch. Moved peppers from the bean bed to some containers. They were buried under the beans and had hardly grown since they were planted. Moved the pickling duke from the hanging basket to the wooden growing box my lettuce had been in. Still got a few lettuce plants growing seed. Cleaned out another growing bed that I need to replant. Pulled a few garlic bulbs to make room for the peppers. Fed everything and put the pony out on grass. Brought feed to Firefly and worked her. Brought hay to the other barn and dug out a stall. I am falling asleep while I write this.
I was able to get 2 whole bales 4x4x3 of unwaxed untreated cardboard for the garden. I sheet compost a lot. my next door neighbors cows keep having calves and the calves keep getting out and getting on the road. When they get on the road, outraged PETA freaks, motorists, etc all come to my door banging on it at all hours of the day and night to tell me about the calves on the road. It's getting tiresome. Last night about 1130 I took 2 of the biggest offenders and tied concrete blocks to their necks and left them on the neighbor's porch bawling. mayhap they'll get the message. Probably not.
Nik oh my . i sure hope they do get the message.
maybe if it happens again you leave a not and it says " sorry about your calves , but we ate them and they were tasty too " LOL i know i m so mean.
not much going on here
have to look at my garlic and see if my scapes are still good. ? i hope i didn't wait to long. just been busy with goats and kids.
