can gift of sprouting garlic be planted now?

I live in the Pacific Northwest (short, not very hot summer, long fairly mild winter) and was just given a few heads of garlic that are sprouting. If I stick them in the ground now, will I be able to get any harvest from them? I have only planted garlic in the fall.

You won't get huge bulbs, but you can plant it now and it'll grow into small bulbs which you harvest in the fall. Then you can re-plant the cloves from those bulbs in the fall for a 2013 harvest. At least here in Nebraska I've done that before - not sure how the weather in the Pacific Northwest would affect it.

I planted some of my own from last year's harvest, and some I had that had dried up. I didn't figure they would sprout, but they're as big as the ones I grew! I have some left, so I will plant those dry ones too, and see what happens.
