We planted a Kentia Palm about 6 weeks ago. It is about 6 feet tall to the bottom branching. This week two of the fronds broke enough for the frond to fold down but not break off. We water every other day and the soil is sandy. We live in La Paz, BCS Mexico. Daily temps now are in the 90s F. Why is this happening?
why do palm fronds break and fold down?
The Kentia you mean is Howea forsteriana? Do you have photos? Whereabouts along the frond were the breaks/folds? Is it planted outside? Are there any animals (cats, birds) around that may have climbed or landed on the fronds causing it?
It takes a fair effort to break a frond right through, so it's not surprising that the broken bit is still hanging on. But there could be a number of reasons for it. These palms don't usually have that problem, not ordinarily.
is there a picture you could post for us to see? Or did you figure/find out what is going on?
