Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all! Just wanted to let everyone know that on Saturday May 11 I had a heart attack and my heart stopped for 4 seconds from a clot. I'm still here and God is seeing me through this much needed eye opening for my health. I'll be down for a few months for recovery but looking to bounce back better than I was before. It may be a while before I participate in anything so just wishing everyone happy plantings this Spring and Summer.

Hello Michael!!! I am so sorry about your heart problem, I hope you will recover soon and be back with us at the swap this fall.
Take care my friend,
Josephine.

Michael!! Please take care of yourself! So sorry to hear about your heart problems, but am thankful that you're on the mend. We went through that with my husband in 2011. Take it slow and easy and don't overdo it.

I hope you are well and gardening soon. I have read that gardening is a hobby that lowers blood pressure and increases positive brain chemicals. Relax and get better.

After being sent to ER Thursday night turns out all I had Saturday was an arrhythmia attack caused by DHEA supplements from the previous week including one on Saturday. Paramedics said that my heart went into tachycardia followed by bradycardia a few minutes later. They said that it may have been a tiny clot that made my heart stop for those four seconds or it may have just had a 4 second pause from slowing down. Paramedics ran an ekg on me and checked for a heart attack and said I had no signs of one or had any damage to my heart.

Now, I got sent to ER on Thursday cause since Saturday's episode of what felt like a mild heart attack I have been diligently taking hawthorn. I was feeling worse and worse each day that progressed until Thursday when my heart felt like it was going to wiggle out of my chest and then burst into fire. I felt like I had something on fire in my chest cavity, was dizzy and light headed, numb all over and tingling and felt like yakking. This was what got me a ride in the ambulance from Canton to Tyler and 4 hours in er at Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler.

Turns out hawthorn has a nasty little side effect. If you do not have a heart condition of any kind and take hawthorn it will give you the heart condition that you are trying to prevent. In my case I had just that kind of reaction to it with all the signals of a happening heart disease case.

I am well and am in great health according to the doctors who ran tests and studied my blood. Thanks everyone! And see you in the Fall.

Good heavens! Be careful of the stuff that DOESN'T have labels!

Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I threw both in the trash and will write to the company's and let them know what happened. Maybe they'll place more labels on the bottles for others.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Were you taking the hawthorn before the first attack? Was it what caused the problem?

Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

No. Started taking hawthorn The day after the first attack and up till Thursday evening.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

So DHEA supplements caused the first incident and hawthorn the second?

Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow Michael, I guess you better stop taking supplements. In any event I am glad you are o.k. now and looking forward to seeing you in the fall.

Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

I still take several just not the ones that have dangerous side effects.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I never take any type of supplement but im so glad it wasn't a HA and you are ok. Remember some of the side effects are from mixing supplements.

Prosper, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm ever so happy that I am healthy and HA free. Aside from that I have been a sort of home herbal practitioner for 20 years and never had any kind of side effect like the two i had with these. Though only the hawthorn is and actual herb and the DHEA is the master hormone. I kind of knew of the possible side effects but was told by a health care person (no name) that if you have an imbalance in hormones that DHEA can regulate them. I am low in testosterone but obviously my body did not like the DHEA so I'll be switching to Ginseng as recommended by my TCM caregiver. I've taken ginseng off and on since I was 18 so I know it is safe for me.

I look forward to catching up with everyone in the Fall.
