I contacted Johnnys seeds regarding the irradition of seeds in the mail. This speaks to the seed companies but I am still trying to get information regarding private parties sending seeds, through the mail.
Here is their response:
Dear Paul,
Thank you for your inquiry to Johnny's. We have spoken with our post master and we have been assured that our packages will not be put through the process of irradiating. The USPS will ensure that packages containing things such as seed, lobster, etc. will get re-routed from the process as to avoid the treatment. At this time, our packages are being marked as such with our name and if in the future, we need to take further measures, we may have to label them with some sort of special bar code.
This issue is one of high priority with the USPS.
We do feel confident in assuring you that our seeds will be safe at this time.
Please feel free to contact Johnny's or myself at anytime with further concerns or questions.
Best Wishes,
