I started some cuttings in orchid moss today from my plants and cuttings I bought from Edna M. was started on 9th. gotta go buy more moss so I can cut some more brugs back..Before I cut the bag of moss open, I poke holes all over the bag to soak it in the water mixture I use.....I learned that from my mom who raised orchids and she didn't have dry moss flying up her nose..lol...

Cuz I wanted too...lol...I do mine this way all the time..I get too much rain if I do cuttings in soil out in the hothouse. I don't have any room to put jars of water to root cuttings in..so this is my thing with brug cuttings..

I put 3 cuttings in a quart jar, put them in a window for a week and they rooted so fast........
I can just never get the water thing to work. 2 weeks and just have rootlets or rot. The moss thing is working for me so I am way excited not to loss another cutting!!
Brugs are very tricky. Bought an Ecuador Pink from fancy grower and then got free cutting of Frosty Pink. I left both out over winter because they are supposed to come back from the roots in my zone. Last month the free Frosty Pink sprouted and is over a foot tall already, the Ecuador Pink was dead (I thought) and just when I paid postage to have another brug, guess what...a sprout appears on the "dead" one. Now I will have a third brug, a Dr Seuss, coming in the mail so I will have to find a place for it. Now I think three brugs sounds like a collector...I said this wouldn't happen!
I had a question to why I didn't want to put my cuttings in a hothouse..my hothouse plastic covering is removed every spring and I put a shade cloth on. My hothouse is open air so my plants can get rained on so that is why I cannot put them in the hothouse area..lol..
scbuttercup, what is the link to fancy growers? I can not find them. As for you having 3 burgs now... welcome to the addiction. There is just something about them that draws you in and holds you captive. You won't stop at 4. It may be shameful how many you will have in the end.
Rhap, I'm giggling. The place I bought my brug wasn't named Fancy Grower, it was just a frou frou kind of fancy website. I thought it was funny that I paid all that from a grower only to have it die (or so i thought) while the "free" start came back. I finally remembered the name of the grower: Martha's Secrets. Really reasonable prices and good quality.

that does help, i just have tons of nubs as of now. it's been almost a week in water. i was very happy and surprised to see them appear within 24 hours of taking the cutting and putting it in water.

it must be beginner's luck! haha
i'll try the moss if i get into collecting more cuttings. i have the space and the love for the plant, but not the best exposures. most of my yard gets parched
