Tulipa tarda

Royal Oak, MI(Zone 6a)

I just wanted to share these wonderful species tulips. I found them in 12-pack bags at Home Depot last year and trial planted them. So far, they've been blooming like crazy since 4/30, and the rabbits leave them alone!

Here's a view of the whole bed where I tried them. It's under a crabapple tree. I planted 96, so I'll have to fill in with more this fall.

Very pretty, my rabbits aren't so kind. I am a big fan of any of the Tulip Division15 Species, but we have to grow them all behind a deer and rabbit fence. Your Tulipa tarda is also called Tulipa dasystemon by some in the trade though they may be slightly different. They will return reliable if you let the foliage continue to grow until it turns yellow and if you don't over water that bed during the summer. Tulips like a dry hot summer. Patti
