What would I do? Make a pocket in the side and put potting soil in it?
Can I plant seeds for flowers in the side of the bale?
Just make a crack in the bale, ease your plant into the crack and push back together. If you want to chink the crack with some potting mix, you can do that, but it's not really necessary.
