I have had a pair of birds in my garden last couple of days but just cannot figure out what they are sparrow sized but it's the beak that seams large and black and the eyes seem to be at the end that and bald around those features,have enclosed photo of the pair, any help appreciated

Yep, Dunnock. The one in the first pic has lost its feathers around its beak, giving the odd appearance; that could be due to feather mites, or to the wear and tear associated with feeding a brood of hungry chicks.
