shasta daisy?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Someone at the RU told me this was a shasta daisy, but I don't find this one in the plant files. Granted, I didn't look at the entire 2,495 matches, but, just sayin'......................orange with orange center. I'd really like to have more. I don't know where to buy it, since I thought it was a gift plant from a past swap. No one remembered giving it to me.

That may be a daisy, but not the shasta daisy that I know, of course with so many hybrids it could be.

So, do the hybrids self seed?

Enterprise, AL(Zone 8b)

I have three varieties of Shasta daisy and they don't even resemble that. I really don't believe that could be a Shasta Daisy.

So how do I find out what it is then? I guess I can just enjoy the mystery of it, but I was hoping to buy a few more of them.

Post the picture and ask in the plant ID forum. I have had great luck there. Just tonight I had a plant ID in just a couple of minutes.

Gerber daisy?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

It's a Gerber Daisy.

WOW that is the first time I have ever IDed anything right I was almost afraid to post.

Im going to change my mind. The foliage is not right for a Gerber Daisy. It looks more like Gazania the foliage. Here is photo of Gerber foliage. Disregard the Rosemary foliage in the second photo with the photo of the bloom of this yellow Gerber Daisy.

Does it survive outside in the winter? Its really pretty whatever it is.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

It is listed in seed catalogues as annual but I suppose if your zone is right, it could be perennial. I have germinated seeds in the past that I saved from the neighbor's plants. Usually with Gazania,, there can be various colored blooms on the same plant. The way the ray petals are so pointed. i dont know anything else that is like that and the foliage is leathery not herbaceous.

I was still close enough, which is really close for me. Lol

I have Garzania with and without frosted foliage, but I can't see the foliage that well. Garzania blooms close on cloudy days and at night, do your blooms close up. I went out and took pictures this morning showing the blooms when closed.

It looks like Gazania 'New Clear Day Orange': http://www.parkswholesaleplants.com/spring-plants/annuals-ai/gazania-new-day-clear-orange/ It's hardy to zone 9 and normally grown as an annual in our area. Harris and Park Seed both have seeds available, but it might be fun to save and sow your own seeds and see what the offspring look like.

Woohoo, you guys rock!

Yes, the blooms do close up on cloudy days and at night.

And yes, it did live through the winter, even though it was in a small pot. We had an extremely balmy winter here.

I have saved some seed.

I almost bought some gazania but wasn't sure if it would like the heat here. I like the ones with the striped petals. That orange is nice too but I didn't see any that looked like yours. I might have to go back to get a few now.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I just wish I knew where I got them. I had them in a little 3-pot stand. It's hard to get anything to make it through the summer here in those very small pots. Two made it, and one didn't. Actually, I don't remember if that one died over summer or winter. I figured they were all dead or dying, but did occasionally throw some old tea or coffee their way. Gotta be tough around here, and those daisies must be, so I want more.

I saw some for sale at Calloways but as usual they were a bit pricey for me. Still I might go back and see if they have any after reading they can take a summer here.
