Can anyone tell the variety?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi, I've never grown tulips before. Living here in the hot and humid southeast, I felt it would be futile. This beautiful pot was given to me, and now I'm curious. I never dreamt that they had such a beautiful fragrance! Do any of you have a clue as to the variety? And am I correct in thinking that an attempt to grow them here would be futile?
Thanks for looking, and for any suggestions you may have.

i think it could be Tulip Orange Princess which is a Tulip Division 11 Double Late. Mine just came out today, but I didn't have time to take a shot of them. Fla would be tough. Patti

Thanks so much for your response Patti. When I lived in R.I. as a child, I remember my mother growing Tulips, Crocuses, Lilacs, a lot of my favorites that just won't do here in the south. Bummer! I'll just enjoy them while I can as long as they last.
Thanks again!

Tara, like you, I miss the perennial bulb plants, but wouldn't trade what I CAN grow here in the south for any northern bulbs!!!

I must admit Jo, I whole heartedly agree with you! Some of what I've been able to grow here…I know my mother and grandmother would drool over! :-)

I heard you can grow them if you can give them a chill period. Check it out if you are truely interested.

Elfen, because bulbs come pre-chilled, they will bloom one time for us, but after that, they just don't come up again. I, for one, don't have time to dig, chill, replant bulbs - we just have to enjoy pictures of yours.

If I had a garden here in TX, I would plant freesia, ixia, the delicate things that I can't store in my fridge full of food. I would try Amaryllis (I forget what they are really called) and leaving dahlias in the ground. Look in Garden watchdog for bulb sellers who specialize in bulbs for the south, like Old House Gardens (what is that really called?) and there's another similar one. Brents and Beckys also has some recommendations for the south, don't they?
