Greetings everyone!
I have been a member for awhile now so I thought I should finally introduce myself. My name is Jackie and I'm from Groton, Connecticut. I just moved here in December from Reno, Nevada. I'm so glad it's finally spring so I can get going with the container gardening I have been thinking about all winter. This site is so helpful - I'm very glad you guys are here! :-)
Greetings From Connecticut
Welcome ! Wow, that's quite a change for you, from the desert to the upper east coast! Have you found the forums for gardening in your area? There will surely be lots of helpful people there to guide you.
Welcome to Daves! I am in the Southeast but a NY gal in birth and spirit. I sure miss the soil in the NE. Why containers - do you have limited space or physical ability?
KyWoods - Thanks for the warm welcome! I was living in Northern Nevada which is not much different then it is here. The biggest difference is the humidity levels. Thanks for the head's up - I just started perusing those forums. That's what I love about this site - there is always helpful people and information.
missingrosie - Thanks for the warm welcome too! Unfortunately, I only have a small patio so space is very limited. It was that way in Nevada too. The downside of apartment living I suppose.
Thanks again to both of you for the warm welcome!
I lived in NY for a while and grew tomato and peppers and cukes in pots - loved it and lots less heartache with regards to wildlife. Have you looked at the planting pockets? Woollies...something like that. Isaw an entire wall done (photo) for a restaurant - wonderful. An acre on a wall!
Hmm...would that keep climbing squirrels out?
I've never heard of planting pockets. I will have to look those up. Thanks for the suggestion!
Woolly pockets images -----if you type that in sarch engine you can see examples. With the irrigation
I am sure there are off brand just as nice but less expensive.
Not sure about squirrels but would definitely give the critters a run for the money - since would have to hold on while doing their dastardly deeds
They do hold on to our cedar-sided house pretty well, the boogers. LOL I'm always looking for ways to foil the woodland critters, but not much works.
Yes they hold on to everything - but at least it puts a few limbs out of commission - that is good. Less to snatch with - the thieves!
