I was given a crocosmia x crocosmiiflora twilight fairy crimpson plant by a coworker (as thanks for giving her native plants each spring). I know nothing about these except they have corms and might be hardy here. Do they spread (hate that)? Can they tolerate the heat? Should I plant it in a bed and if so will it be ok without being watered often?

crocosmia
I have plain old orange croscomia and it rarely gets anything but rain water and it multiplies but in a clump. It does not spread by runners. Ive had it a long time, at least 10 years and my clump is only about 6" in diam. Hope this helps.
How long does it bloom for? It does help. I suspect though that you get a lot more rain than I do.

It blooms from the bottom of the flower spray upward and depending on how many stalks you have, they dont bloom all at once. I guess I have blooms for a couple months.
I have red ones that do spread but not to the point of annoyance. Mine are starting to bud right now and they go on for a month or so. They are around the base of a large oak tree and stay very happy with almost no care.
