Arlington, TX

I have some wooley iron weed seeds in the fridge and am wondering if anyone has advice for sowing them?

I have never had luck with Ironweed seeds, but they need to be sprinkled on the surface with a very light sprinkle of soil on top.

Well I have some I collected so I need to give them a try. I did read that wooly ironweed does not need cold stratification. Mine are in the fridge as I read somewhere that is where they should be until they are sowed when the weather warms up. Unfortunately I spent a long while yesterday trying to find the site that talked about them, with no luck.

Never started them from seed, but they transplant exceedingly well. A tough little plant that doesn't mind being moved if you can find some that are in a spot where they are doomed anyway (road expansion, construction site, etc.).

Here's an opinion on how to propagate them from seed: http://www.wildflower.org/mobile/expert/show.php?id=1121

I'm going to pull them out of the fridge today and pot them up. I plan on using plain old potting soil and covering them with plastic baggies. Wish them and me luck.
