This is a bird that briefly flew on top of a telephone pole before flying away. I am thinking it is a female indigo bunting, as there were many male indigo's in the area.
This was taken in front of the Boy Scout Woods on High Island, TX yesterday. It was a very overcast dreary day, not the best for photos.
That looks as good a candidate as any I can think of. But as you say, not exactly the best of photos!
