This was an odd plant I came across when on a 4X4 road trip in the high mountains.

Boy that is a shot of big color in such a colorless landscape even if so dwarfed by everything else! Mother nature sure makes interesting choices. I wonder why so colorful. Easy to find for some animal to eat?
