Love the blooms and would like to plant them in a huge container that gets full sun at our courthouse. But would like something that really blooms. Is this the right vine for something like this? I have no experience growing them at all.
Our summers can be up to 100 or higher and humid and course can be windy. They say KC has summers like Georgia, winters like Minnesota, rofl, I know you all wish you could live here... ;)
Thanks for your help.
passiflora I know nothing
I lived in Lee's Summit, Mo. for many years; Independence, Mo. before that - it's a crap-shot on the weather, that's for sure. If you like Passifloras, Passiflora incarnata is the only one that will be hardy for you.
It gets huge, blooms a lot and they smell like peanut butter. You would, however, have to put it on a trellis AND mulch it heavily to get it to come back in the summer - June in Missouri.
You might be better off to buy Mandevilla vines, which are annual vines for you, come in several colors and put on quite a show when it gets hot.
There's a huge nursery out on Lee's Summit Road, off I-70 and 40 Hwy., south of HyVee - they can tell you just about anything you can ask.
Thank you, still think I should come live in Panama City, with the white sandy beaches and all the tropicals, and quit worrying about tropicals and Missouri....rofl.
It is beginning to look like this summer may be a high of 60 at the rate we are going. We are still dipping below freezing....so much for the peaches.
Hey having said that I am getting a greenhouse this summer....I am so excited, maybe I should fill the floor with sand and then I can pretend I am on the beach.... ;)
You DO need to come down here! Prices are on par with KCMO area and MOST plants can stay outside all year long.
Which means I could stay outside, I have figured out I am solar powered and heaven knows these cloudy dark days are wearing on me. They are talking about snow.... ;( High tomorrow 40! High how can they even use that word with 40...rofl.
