How do I cook a fresh pumpkin?

Ok you guys, don't laugh, I have never cooked a fresh pumpkin. I have a pumpkin left over from Halloween and want to cook it up and use it for pumpkin pie, etc. Do I have to skin it first then boil or WHAT? Can it be frozen after it's cooked?

Thanks, I know you all already know how to do this, right?
