These were all shot yesterday at Galveston, Texas on Gulf of Mexico coast.
1 & 2 are of same bird that a birder next to me IDd as a Downy Ladderback hybrid. It does look like a downy face with a ladderback back.
3 is a different bird in same area. It looks weird also, but maybe just because of the head angle.
#4 - I don't know what this is.
#5 - Which grackle?
Downy Ladderback Hybrid? No Clue. Which Grackle
Great photos! #3 looks like a male Downy Woodpecker and #5 is a Common Grackle. We have both birds in this area (Northern VA).
Thank you butterflysmiles. I appreciate the kind words. I thought maybe the grackle was a boat-tailed or great-tailed, but I have a hard time telling them from common, so could be a common.

## 1-2 look like female Ladder-backed to me, I can't see any good reasons for hybrid
# 3 ditto male Downy
# 4 I'm thinking female Orange-crowned Warbler
# 5 Great-tailed Grackle for me, given the uniform purple iridescence
Resin
Thanks, Resin. I'll try to get back out there and see if I can get photos of the hybrids. Supposedly there are several.
