I have chocolate Chip Ajuga for trade and it is very vivid purple blue. It does so well here, I was thinking to get other varieties to mix up on a hill in front of my house.
I want Ajuga varieties
What are you doing up so late?
LoL I did not notice that I was up so late. Sometimes nothing is on tv. How are you?
I have been fighting a chest cold for 12 days. I am finally getting better. How are you guys doing?
My garden is looking great and all the irises are getting ready to bloom and the roses are blooming. Tomorrow suppose to have 40 mph winds. Every year at the same time. Oh well, at least they are not 167 mph.
I had that horrid cold too about when you had it. I had it for a full 3 weeks and still cough up the mucus.
I finally went to the doctor and got a Z Pack with a refill, if I needed it. I took my last pill on the refill on Wednesday. I am finally feeling just about healthy. I thought i would never stop coughing up that mucus.
My heart doctor told me to go to the doctor and to stop trying to fight it off myself. I was getting to old to do that.
Yes I agree Sharon, this particular bacterial cold/flu was killer this year. One girl had it before me, she got it before Christmas and her antibiotics did not work, she kept coming to work sick and we have not seen her for 2 months now. Her name is on our list of employees with no return date and she is 51. Nobody will tell us anything so I am worried.
The darn thing lasts for months if you include the coughing up the mucus part.
Would you stay living in the cold climates up North Evelyn or come back to SoCal? Could you move to another State easier to retire in?
Evening
Sorry to hear you've been unwell..
Dawn, isn't ajuga terribly invasive..I've been fighting pulling it out like crazy!
it does spread and mound quite a bit but i have seen it kept neAT with a good ladnscape cloth and mulch. i think it's lovely! :)
Hi Betty. It is not too invasive here because of our climate, but I imagine it could be in my new house, where I want to put it as it is a much colder and higher elevation with more shade. I shall see though. I think it could be contained with metal strips or sunket pots. Not sure yet. It is pretty. We have so many Acorns that I'd like something more mat to keep the acorns from seeding and be able to sweep them off the dense mat more easily, I think?
Nice chatting Dawn..glad to hear you are moving, is it the dream home/cottage you once said you wanted??
As I sit here shaking my head, after the nightmare of trying to rid of it in my garden I sure hope you don't end up in same mess..as you say, perhaps your region will be different...
LOL Things that get a lot of rain, that do well, don't thrive well here in our dry heat. Mine does well in containers but in the ground thus far it has not overtaken the garden. Does it climb up your other plants? It seems to me that it would block out weeds? Does it not let seeds self sow? I'm confused?
Dawn, I have some. I have pulled it up many times and it keeps coming back. I just control it so it does not take over the area of the roses. I think best time to transplant would be end of September. Not now. Mine has a blue flower. Probably have at last twenty plants by now. I will look tomorrow.
Hello Betty. Give yourself a big hug. Sharon
How can it take over the roses Sharon? It is a ground cover not a climber? Gosh. Well I have some areas in Tehachapi that I need stuff to block out seeds on a hill. Can't plant much that deer won't eat unless protected. I'd like some. I wonder how deep the roots run, to keep them in check and in bounds? Thanks though. I see several purple varieties. I have Chocolate Chip, from a former member who left Ca.
It is not climbing the roses, just covering all the ground area around two peace roses. They expand by roots in all directions. And they will climb right over a boulder and take off on the other side. I have pulled them out three times and they just keep coming back. So do not put them anywhere you do not want them to stay or wander. The area I have them in does get a lot of moisture. And they are planted in very good composted soil. Remind me in September.... Sharon
As I read your post Sharon I'm shaking my head 'yes' as to all you've said..last night I worked in the gardens and pulled/pulled and didn't make a dent..worse thing (other than a plant someone gave me that can grow up to 8 feet tall..both are giving me the what for..drats, wish people would tell you when they give you something invasive..
Felt the hugs Sharon..
Oh no, not the Kudzu everyone talks about. lol I think that one is more like 40 feet high or 100. Well that will be food for thought for sure. I see when I put them in plastic litter boxes, they fill in in 5 months from one piece. They don't do so well directly in my bad soil, but do well in the areas where it has been well amended. Will put some thought into locations and keeping it out of areas that I need other stuff to come reseed in etc. Thanks for the info guys.
