Oh! o.k. I thought it was compost. This is a fine time to trim back, it won't hurt one bit.
Trim, and if you want more to border your driveway, stick cuttings with a couple of nodes into dirt and water.
I love the way it smells, but yes it does need some haircuts.
It will look bad for a while but it will be fine like frostweed has said
I just added this plant to my front garden. Love it !
