pH does matter

Tap water VS snow water. Can you see the difference? I wanted to take a pic before I remove the lower leaves so you can see the difference in the leaf color.

Connie:
Your plant is beautiful & I love the varigation; but being in S. Florida, I think it's going to be a little hard for me to find snow water for my AV's. I guess rain water would be equivalent but this is our dry season so not much rain until May or so.

It will look so much better when I remove those lower leaves. Ya have a good point there Chiqui, not much snow to collect in FL. (snicker) Yep, rain water would do the same. I am surprised you aren't getting any of that rain that has been coming through.

I had problems growing in Florida when I first started because I did not realize my pH in the tap water was so high. Very alkaline. I add vinegar to my water now and it seems to work fine.

Hi Connie,

Beautiful plant!! What am I missing? Is it a slight yellowing in the bottommost leaves? Whatever the case, I'd be happy to swap some leaves with you.

The bottom leaves are a lighter green, not really a yellowing...just lighter in color. I was trying to catch the difference in the color of the leaves but it isn't showing up as well in the pic. (I can't take good pics like Karen does lol) Here are two leaves. The bottom is a lower leaf and the top is a newer one. I tried to take it under my lights in hopes the contrast would show up better...guess it doesn't :(

YES, Earle!! I would be more than happy to trade or share some stuff with you :) Anything I do will have to wait until after mid May though.

Connie your photos are just fine! ;)

You can also set out your tap water for 24 hours or more before using, and add just a sprinkle of activated charcoal.... for those of us who don't have (and don't want!) snow water! I keep a 2 gallon and a 1 gallon pitcher filled with water all the time.... just to let chlorine and such burn off.

Also.... beautiful plant!

Can't hold a candle to ya Karen lol!! I have always let the water set but it is treated with Chloramine which is harder to take out. Our pH is averaging 8.6 and sometimes higher. Just wanted to show the difference between our tap and nature :)
