How I spent the first day of spring break

Arlington, TX

I didn't realize how long it takes me to do things in my middle age but today reminded me. Made this rather ugly addition to the cactus bed for one plant (Was it worth it?). I am moving my Vernonia lindheimeri into this bed so it can get more sun and have faster draining soil. It bloomed a lot last year but flopped over and seemed unhappy where it is currently living. I suppose I will find other plants to add as well but it is a tiny space and not roomy. It took me all day to putter around the yard and make this mess...I am getting old.

I know that as I've gotten older it takes me longer to do things bc I'm always getting side tracked or trying to do 3-4 things at one time. So a lot gets started but nothing gets finished. Looks like you did good today.

It looks like that Vernonia is going to be very happy in that bed, Good Job, you will have to post pictures later.

A mess to you ... looks like a thing of beauty to me! I've just started to clean up my flowerbeds (I'm a wimp and hate to be outside when it's chilly) and it does seem to take me forever to do things. But it's much more fun doing flowerbed "work" than any other kind of work, isn't it?

Finished two new additions in all, now I just need more cacti! Day 4 was about reseating and leveling my little pond. Now I need to add the water fall and rock.

Cheryl, you work to hard, but beautiful job!!

It's pleasing to me and thats all that matters. Gets me outside and lets me relax and enjoy the natural world in my unnatural back yard.

Cheryl, very nice! I love rock lined beds. I envy your supply of stones!!

Ha! I bought those stones. Others in the yard my husband and I have collected on trips. My property has zero rock.

I have enough rock for everybody....
