It's Starting ... the bulb-buying frenzy

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

It was my pleasure to go to Costco today and find that they must have just received their shipment of bulbs, and the shelves were loaded. These are the earliest ones, mostly lilium and callas, dahlias, begonias, eucomis, a few aroids and of course a few others, like liatris and gladiolus. The bags are 11.99 each, and the more expensive the bulb and the fancier the variety, the fewer in the package. The calla lilies are 6 to a bag, the oriental lilies I got were 18 to a bag. Somehow I recall that they had more varieties and colors, and I still have to do some online shopping.

Now I can't wait to go in the next week or two to see what else they've got. They tend to get their shipments in waves. Peonies tend to come in much later with the plants.

Hi Cathy, I've already been on a bulb buying frenzy at one of our local nurseries here, LOL. I got a few lily bulbs, 2 types of gladiolus, dahlias and I've stocked up on caladium bulbs as well to plant when it gets warmer. I've ordered online a total of 60 lily bulbs from Touch of Nature, B and D, and Brent and Becky's. I'm going to have to stay away from Costco, I'm sure the DH would revoke my card if I were to buy anything else to plant this spring. I wonder if I could sneak in a few begonias?

I did all my lily buying from Touch of Nature, Faraway Flowers, B&D, and The Lily Garden and maybe one other. So I am all lilied up until the fall planting. Patti

Forgot that I ordered some in bulk from A.D.R. Yikes. Patti

I forgot I ordered from American Meadows. I love bulbs in containers, which I find make the most appropriate gifts even when I am sad to see them go.
