Hi fellow Texas gardeners. I am looking for bulk amounts of vermiculite and peat moss in the New Braunfels area. For the right price, I will drive to San Antonio, Austin or Fredericksburg areas. Anybody have any suggestions?

Looking for bulk vermiculite and peat moss in New Braunfels
my nurseryman/friend drives to Benton Ar.to get his so I guess it is likely to be quite a trek where ever you find it
Hmm, thanks grits. May need to make a special deal with a nursery around here...
Hope some other folks have suggestions!!
This is the best deal I found on vermiculite last year, and I still have half the bag for this year: http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/vermiculite-4-cubic-foot-bag/seed-starting Shipping to me was $15, and it came in just a few days.
I normally find big compressed bales of peat moss at Home Depot. Walmart had some in smaller bales last week.

Hi Patricia,
Ahh, the Greenhouse Mega Store keeps coming up! I found they have a great price on shade cloth, which we decided we need in this hot central Texas sun, for our veggies. Will check them out for vermiculite too! Will check out HD for peat moss prices, also. Thanks!

The only place that I found the big bags (4 cubic feet) of Vermiculite was at Shoal Creek Nursery in Austin. They were about $29 a bag. They usually have one or two bags in stock but they get deliveries on Friday so if you call early in the week they can order several for you for pickup that Friday or weekend.
If you need a lot (many bags) perhaps you could call the manager and tell him how far you are driving and try to ger a better deal for several bags at once. If you get a great price let me know and maybe I'll get a couple bags as well for the future.
I'm pretty far (Dallas county) but I saw both at the Home Depot earlier this week. LARGE bags.....not right with the regular gardening supplies....may have to ask.
nbgard>> Both HD & Lowe's have dcecent prices on the compressed peat bales, and I know HD's down there in NB... Actually, the more I thought, I got some compressed peat at Wal-Mart also...
For the vermiculite check out Gardenville in San Marcos. Check the website for the contact info, that's where I picked up mine last year. If I remember, it was only about $20 for the 4 cf. bag, plus it's right in your neck of the woods... You said "bulk" but never specified quantity, how much do you need?
Hope this helps....

Thanks Kirk, Lou and Kevin. I will follow up on those suggestions, also. We are starting a business building and installing raised garden boxes so are wanting to get some good deals on all supplies for that.
