Apple varieties for the Lake Ray Hubbard area

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I would like to plant an apple tree (or 2), does anyone know the best varieties that will grow in this area? Also what about crap apple varieties?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I got a 5-in-1 Apple tree from Burgess in the early 90's. It is still alive at my old house in Arlington. And of all 5 grafts, only the Granny Smith part produces apples. Does that help?

Yes, its a start..thanks for the reply.

I have Molly's Delicious, Pink Lady, and Dorsett Golden Apple. So far so good. I think I have Granny Smith, too, but the tag fell off =(. I'll need to wait maybe one more year to see what fruits I get. They are mulched, and they have drip irrigation. The possible Granny Smith is planted in with some peach trees, so the peach trees may have gotten jealous and ripped the tag off.

Freestone peaches by any chance? :-D

The peaches are Early Amber (semi-freestone) and La Feliciana (freestone). Those are the peaches I can remember off the top of my head. They really are tough little trees right now. I'm pretty sure the apple tree in their row is Granny Smith as I bought it as a polinator and didn't really feel a need to put it in the same row as the other apple trees. Whatever it is, it is hanging right in there with the peach trees.

Thanks for all the suggestions, now to get me to the nursery to see if they carry any of these...

I considered peaches but not a fan of that fruit so would be senseless to plant them, I already have a pomegranate and persimmons that I really love.
