Well, looking at my flower bed and pasture crop of weeds, it sure looks to me like spring has sprung, at least the first time. hahaha.
Some of you may remember that I damaged a lot of my shrubs with weed killer year before last (I think), and now that I've waited to see which ones would pull out of it and which wouldn't, I have some major landscaping to do. My main decisions right now are how to keep some symmetry in the beds and how to use what I already have. So my questions are: can I transplant these mature, healthy Indian Hawthorne; if yes, then is it too late already?
I had foot surgery in January, so have been propping my foot up for the last several weeks. Has to be above my heart, so not much I can do in that position. Much better now, and I see the dr tomorrow. Hopefully, he'll release me from this @#$&^# boot that comes up to my knee and is soooo restrictive.
Also, I've been dealing with vertigo for this last week. Ugh! Much better now (no nausea, vomiting and room spinning), but I still am light headed and woozy when I get up or turn my head quickly. And all this from the girl who is "never sick."
Transplanting Indian Hawthorne
If I really wanted them moved, I'd risk it now. With plenty of water, and an old sheet for shadecloth, I've moved shrubs in summer, but I don't recommend it. They are, however, still alive.
Sybil, I am sorry you haven't been feeling well, I hope the vertigo will go away soon, I have had it and I know what a terrible thing it is. Also I hope your foot will be healed soon.
I agree with Gypsi, you could move the shrubs, but if you don't feel well maybe you should think it over and wait till the fall.
Thanks ladies. I'm not sure what I'll do, since I'm still pretty wobbly. We'll see.
You are more important than the shrubs.
And if you have to move them in June, stuff them in a 5 gallon pot, bury it 2 inches in the dirt on the East side of your house, and keep them watered all summer. I have pulled a ton of large plants thru with this trick, and I just move them when I know where they are going in fall or winter.
