Steady? Are the winecups the broadleaf ones? The other looks like one of the other Tx natives - I cant decide from memory if its a plant with a tall stem that tur.s into blue flowers and that turns into velvet hitchikers...if the broadleaf one is the one in question, it sure looks like lettuce..

The winecups are the cut-leaf ones.

I am waiting for Joy to chime in.

Actually, those leaves remind me of coreopsis we have here...

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I knew they reminded me of something. I bet they are coreopsis! Still waiting for Joy.

Ta TaTaDaaaaaa! (Little trumpet flourish announcing my presence).
Sorry to be so lat in chiming in, I was in SA at the stock show competing with my dogs, and when I got back yesterday, I had lambs popping out all over. I am writing now while I munch on lunch, then it's back out to work on a place for the baby goats that will be due starting Saturday.
They could very well be coreopsis, there were several in that front bed. Of course it could be a weed, that area in front of my big gate is, what is the polite term, oh yes, "naturalized" I will give it a look see in a bit.
Ultimately it was not an intentional addition, but I hope it is a pretty one.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Gee.....you sound just a mite busy!

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

You oughta see her spread! She's VERY busy. She even has trained hummingbirds!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Grats are in order! Hang in there and dont lose any!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Joy. I dont think they are weeds but if they are, they will feel right at home in my garden. Baby lambs and baby goats, what could be better? Im so looking forward to the RU. Im worse than the kids about those babies.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

I have two bottle babies right now, one lamb lost his mom to a freak thing and the other is a itty bitty twin who's momma rejected. They will be weaned by RU, we have two does due this weekend, then two more first of March, then four first of April. All will have minimum of twins, I expect more out of some.
We will also have goslings this spring, and maybe some ducklings. And I wonder why I can't get any gardening done.

Ooooo, I have scrambled eggs showing up several places this spring. And my grape hyacinths are super thick. And Marty, I picked eight asparagus today.

The little mystery plant growing in my winecups is about to bloom so we will soon know what it is. Maybe.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think it is Woods Cornsalad, http://wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=VARA
but not sure of course.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

rouxcrew - your little goat is a cutie pie.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Josephine, You are correct. It bloomed and sadly, it was not coreopsis. It is the wood corn salad. Thanks for you native expertise.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

That is a neat little plant, although it doesn't amount to much.
