Shot these in the last couple of days in Willis, TX - just north of Houston in a mostly pine but some hardwood area.
I think the first three are of an Orange-crowned Warbler? That's the only thing I can figure out that would be here this time of year. Wilson's would but this bird doesn't have the dark cap. Pine Warbler would too, but they have white under the tail instead of yellow and they have wingbars.
The last two are of a vireo I think, but not sure which.

OC Warbler? A Vireo?
1-3 Orange Crowned Warbler and 4-5 Black-capped Vireo
Donna,
Isn't the black capped endangered? Or maybe I have an old book? That's what it looks like, but I don't think they are supposed to be in my neck of the woods. That would be awesome.
Thanks!
Patti
yes they are endangered through habitat loss(housing and cattle & sheep grazing lands cleared) and parasitism from the Cowbird. With the bad rain storms that came through out of the west it could have been pushed more easterly during migration. We had a Painted Redstart down here all last winter. I am not sure where you are on the map but my book shows up from Mexico, curving around and up through mid central Tx up to OK.
That must be it then. Sure looks right. Thanks so much.
Patti
Bit late ;-) but ditto
Resin
Thanks Resin.
Hummm. Looks like a blue headed vireo to me.
Yes, I am still on the fence about this one. The eye isn't right for black-capped and I've looked in a few more books and they are not supposed to be in the Willis area. They are more in central TX as Donna mentioned.
I'll open this one up again for a bit to see if there is any additional input...
Willis is just about 40 miles north of Houston.
Patti
Rechecked, I'd agree with Blue-headed - I'd forgotten that they were present in Texas in winter, wrongly thinking they'd all be in South or Central America at this time of year
Resin
Ah, thanks so much for looking again, Resin. Rats, I'll have to take it off of my list. :)
I thought that was too good to be true.
