I found your thread David and your pics are AWESOME. I always prefer the "landscape" pics over the "single specimen" pics. Thank you for sharing your pictures. A DG (DaveGarden) friend mailed me a camera so I'm hoping this summer to be posting some of my own pictures this year. A friend dug up and mailed me over 300 bulbs late this fall so we hired a guy and he removed sod and I increased my flower beds by 3X. I'm so eager to see how my plantings turned out!!! Many I simply had to stuff into above ground flower beds to hold them since the worker didn't get the sod removed in time and I needed to get the bulbs in the ground NOW!!!

David, your garden is beautiful. I also love the colors/decor of your house....lovely and unique! (Did you paint/decorate it?). Whoever did the designing did a GREAT job......

Very interesting garden with lots of unexpected touches.
I enjoyed this so much. Cottage gardens can be anywhere. Of course around an actual cottage like your is even better. Just love the way you painted- decorated your cottage and all the plants are great. My dream was a cottage & garden like yours only I always had to build my Cottages new because the only older homes in my town are is very unsafe neighborhoods. I ultimately ended up with a victorial style 2/3 required brick house on an acre I try to make cottagy- but yours-well what a dream.

David, do you have some new pictures to share??
I'm always inspired by David's use of color and texture.
David, do you "map" you planting bed out before you plant? Or do use my method, trial and error? Whatever method you use it sure is working out for you! ☺
David, I'm still house hunting but I'm coming closer to a decision (and can make an offer when I get my pre-qualified letter from the mortgage company). Then I'll have a whole new set of gardening challenges to face. Each of the 3 houses's back yard garden area are soooooooo different. I'll let you know with pics when it's a done deal.
Well... we bought a house in October, it had years of neglect outdoors. The previous owner had been a little old lady who's health failed. We had different areas we named according to the dominant issue. We had the wilderness, a raised area with Aspen and flowering plum that was so overgrown we didn't know we had landscaping boulders and a birdhouse on a post that was over 6 feet tall!
The jungle consisted of an area about 20 x 60 with a shed, grass over 18 inches tall that hid such treasures as a whole pickup load of branches, rose prunings and the spikes from Century plants and about a dozen tomato cages. It also had a few flowers planted in it. I've transplanted out several of them and still have LOTS of work to do.
The first picture is after I have pruned and cleared away a lot of the mess in the "wilderness", the 2nd picture, the mess between the shed and neighbors fence & arborvitae the 3rd is the jungle before work. 4th is photo from within my patio looking towards the back yard. 5th a photo of the patio from the front of the house, the pond is further to the right, out of sight in #5.

Psych, congrats on your house. We just bought ours at the same time. Yours has tons of potential!
The gravel gets delivered on Friday and then I will have eliminated our front yard but gained a semi-circle drive with a flower island.
Hi David , your garden is beautiful. It's amazing that gardeners think alike because I have the same lily planted next to my bird bath. Lol. Will post the picture later because I do not know how to download my pictures of the compt to the IPad . My 14 year old grandson is suppose to show me .(laugh)

My gravel got delayed by over a week but it eventually showed up. My "Island" does look like much this year. I don't know if I'll get more time to put in on it this fall or not. I hope so!

I wonder why David was removed.
My understanding is that there was some drama back in the day when the site was under previous management. =)
He was "removed", he took himself out. He never told me why.
Removed implied that someone removed him...rather than not re-enrolling.
Just love it- my kind of garden. Chocked full to the brim. Love the door area as well. A true cottage garden. I know I'd be entertained for hours visiting your garden and as interesting as it is I bet You'd be a hoot to visit with.
