Hello again from Oregon

It's been a few years since I've subscribed, but I was telling a friend about this site and got the "bug" again. I'm still learning what I can grow in the high desert area. It says we are in zone 6b, but I think it's closer to 5. Anyway, I'm anxious to see what's new.

Only saying hello,, I believe I have read a few threads started by you some time ago Tough zone to grow high and dry in but I bet you get some interesting cactus palms and such .. ice plants maybe , such as ..

Thanks for the welcome. I'm learning :) I've got my peonies, daylilies, clematis etc. I'm going to try some of the "iffier" ones in pots this year. Seems so far the best ones are bulbs. I keep trying.

Hi everyone, I noticed that all the people who have posted on this thread share similar climate zones. I also live in a dry area. (Eastern Washington not like Seattle at all!) We get some snow and freezing in the winter and hot dry summers. Our weather has just started to hit the 60's the last week or so. I've got my pre season plugs going and will plant my seed trays today and tomorrow. Exciting time of the year for me. I am learning how to use the three season greenhouse my husband built for me two years ago.
This big guy visited my yard again this winter (yuck) He is eating my mountain ash trees!!

We took an old Costco 'garage' tent that we had used for a wedding tent and covered it with corrugated clear siding and supported the siding with hattrack. It was inexpensive and has been fun. We used landscaping blocks filled with soil to support the frame. My husband and I are do it yourselfers, and this project was fairly easy and inexpensive to do.
